A press conference was held today in Jihlava to mark the launch of the new Obleč Jihlavu website. This is the third project in a series, following on from the successful initiatives Obleč Prahu (Dress Prague) and Obleč Brno (Dress Brno). Its aim is to offer the residents of Jihlava and the entire Vysočina Region clear and understandable information on how to deal with unwanted clothing in a meaningful and sustainable way, taking into account local needs.
How people in the Vysočina Region deal with clothing
The press conference also included the results of a survey among residents of the Vysočina Region, which mapped shopping behavior, sorting, and other uses of clothing. The results show that the topic of sustainability and helping others has strong support in the region:
54% of residents combine buying new and second-hand clothing
81% of people want clothing to be reused, recycled, or processed in an environmentally friendly way
85% of respondents consider it important that discarded clothing helps people and does not end up in the trash
64% of residents put clothing in textile collection containers
32% of people donate clothing to friends or family
21% of residents donate clothing to non-profit organizations
Compared to Prague and Brno, Vysočina ranks among the regions with the highest willingness to donate clothing and the lowest proportion of textiles thrown away in mixed waste.
Obleč Jihlavu: clearly organized and in one place
The website www.oblecjihlavu.cz clearly connects:
textile collection containers,
charity shops of non-profit organizations,
community workshops and repair shops,
one-time SWAP events,
collection yards.
The aim of the website is to make it easier for people to decide where to donate their clothes so that they can continue to be used—either by specific people or by being processed in an environmentally friendly way.
Thanks to our partners
A big thank you goes to the city of Jihlava and all the partners who are involved in the Obleč Jihlavu project and help return clothing back into circulation. Thanks to our joint efforts, clothing can continue to help – meaningfully, locally, and sustainably.
